Lightweight All Road Electric Bike

Weighing in at 28lbs with 44mm tire clearance the Prolog sees new adventures ahead. Hello, LeMond All Road Prolog.

It’s been hard to keep this bike under wraps since it came over for early testing. Logging some big rides over the last few weeks. Pedaling back roads into the labyrinth of service roads leading out into the hills has been the best way to transition from summer to fall. The Carbon frame and fork offer a smooth ride while maintaining speed on lovely chip seal roads.

LeMond is an iconic name in the bike world and as a brand has taken many shapes over the years. When LeMond stepped into their current form as an eBike manufacturer a few years back the Prolog and the Dutch were more then just cool new eBikes, they were stealthy and stunning. Bearing all the expectations of a premiere bike brand LeMond has delivered two of the best eBikes we’ve seen.

The All Road Prolog shows that LeMond is looking ahead in expanding their catalog and creating premium eBikes.

The Lab: All Road Prolog

The LeMond All Road Prolog is a lightweight Class I eBike ready to tackle the tarmac and gravel. With a full carbon frame and fork, the All Road weighs 28 lbs., battery included.

The Mahle x35+ rear hub motor has 250w and 40nm of torque paired with a 250Wh battery integrated into the down tube. A simple single button remote is integrated intro he top tube. No display, no switches, just clean and simple. Stealthy and sleek.

Mahle’s partner app will display expected data of the system and let you track rides. Additionally you can customize your tune to personalize The power outputs of the three PAS modes for a personal ride offering power how and when you like.

The All Road Prolog can support riders up to 77 miles of pedal assist and with the addition of a 200wh range extender can easily help riders hit their century mark with plenty of power left.

The All Road has one of our favorite group sets spec’d. Shimano GRX 1×11 drivetrain with GRX brakes. The GRX package is solid smooth shifting with superior performance. The GRX brakes with ice tech rotors have an excellent grab and manage heat on long descents high above other offerings.

LeMond will offer three colors: white, black and rose, in three different sizes. Each size will have different bar widths to appropriately be sized for different riders. Keeping the weight down with carbon handlebars, a carbon stem and a carbon seat post.

Tubeless ready Token wheels wrapped with Panaracer GravelKing 700x43c tires. A lightweight stiff wheel keeps the AR honest yet the carbon frame/ fork are smooth even on very chattery terrain.

Comfort features for riders include integrated rear lights in the seat stays and a front light mounted to the stem. Dual bottle cage mounts and frame mounts for fenders all the All Road to be ready for long rides and all sorts of weather.

Lemond | Comfortable with an incredible range

Starting with assembly, getting the All Road together for a ride was effortless. The bike slides out of the box on a tray allow for quick assembly. We did swap over to a tubeless setup to boost confidence when straying off the beaten path and avoid unecessary flats. Not to mention if it’s tubeless ready, why not go to tubeless?

Most importantly the All Road ride is smooth and comfortable. The carbon frame is supple enough to cut down the road chatter while being stiff enough to snap around corners and hammer down on the pedals.

The Mahle X35+ drive unit delivers smooth power and paired with the All Road Prolog, outputs a very impressive range. The X35+ reduces weigh from its predecessor, has increased torque and ANT+ connectivity. The low profile of the Mahle system makes the LeMond bikes extremely stealthy. The lack of display and “typical” remote may have some feeling it’s lacking features, but for us, we find the minimal features freeing and boosting the rider experience. Fortunately the “+” of the X35 let’s you connect it to the Mahle App for all the data readouts and let’s you customize the tune for a personal riding experience. We found using the app great for initial setup but opted to pair to a Garmin Edge for the ride.

Making All Road Prolog absolutely perfect

What’s the catch? We’ve been asking ourselves the same thing. Not everything is made perfect, but the All Road leaves very little left to hunt for.

The Shimano GRX groupset and Token wheels deliver the performance the All Road is capable of. With upgrades for Carbon wheels and a Shimano Di2 GRX, performance would be increased but at a marginal difference for most.

As a whole, we, and I’m sure most, would be beyond satisfied with the All Road as is. The Carbon stem is something that we would change out if it were a personal bike. The cockpit on your bike, as many road and gravel riders know, is a personal preference. Stem length and drop, bar width and flare. We would venture down our “go-to’s” list to get our favorite feel.

Final Thoughts on the Lemond All Road Prolog

Overall, the LeMond All Road Prolog is a fast, lightweight all road electric bike that leaves little to be desired. At $6000 the All Road has a premium spec and is capable of taking on long days in the saddle from the tarmac to the woods.

In the handful of rides, I was able to get in before the release Eco mode allowed for hours of riding and countless miles. Bumping up the power through the other levels of Pedal Assist unlocked the torque of the Mahle system, without having a dramatic impact on the overall range. Pushing into the hills and leaning into the bike’s power will soak up more of the battery making the range extender a highly desirable companion.

In my brief time before release, I haven’t had time to truly push the limits of the All Road Prolog, but from my first impressions, I can safely say that the capability is of no surprise. So far it has been a blast to ride and has been making the transition from summer to fall something to look forward to.
