A safer, more durable e-bike helmet for kids
Ozmo, a Brooklyn-based safety equipment brand, is introducing the Sidekick, a groundbreaking e-bike helmet designed for children aged one and up. This helmet is built to meet the demands of modern family transportation, particularly the increasing use of e-bikes for daily commutes.
Launched on Kickstarter on March 11th 2025, the Ozmo Sidekick was fully funded in less than 12 hours. We got a chance to get some helmets for our little reviewer friends to see how they enjoy the Ozmo Sidekick on the Cannondale Cargowagen Neo

The Lab
The Sidekick boasts the NTA 8776 e-bike certification of up to 28 mph, alongside MIPS technology for enhanced impact protection. Along with those it has certifications from CPSC and EN1078, ensuring high safety standards. The Sidekick is designed with features that prioritize both safety and user-friendliness. It includes “Damage Defense” technology for increased durability, an adjustable dial fit system and a Fidlock magnetic buckle for easy on/off application.
Along with that there is adaptability for various weather conditions with a removable winter liner and ear cover accessories. Furthermore, the helmet incorporates unique features like a “Charm Slide” for personalized decoration, a bug net, a built-in brim for sun protection, and a u-lock compatible vent for secure storage. It comes in two different sizes, Size XXS (45-49cm) is great for tiniest littles ages 1+, and Size XS (49-53cm) is generally great for toddlers and up. The Ozmo Sidekick comes in a variety of kid friendly colors as well.
What we think
It’s nice to see a company taking the safety of little ones that ride passenger on e-bikes into account. With more and more bikes coming out with the option for passengers, there will inevitably be more kids on the back of bikes, which is a great thing! It is very enjoyable to see children riding passenger and having a big smile on their face as they cruise down the road.
Right away when you pick up the Ozmo Sidekick you can feel the quality of the helmet. The outer shell feels nice and durable, and that is great for a helmet that is going to be sometimes handled by a kid. As for fit, the helmet fit our review great. Some helmets can be finicky when putting on and off, but this was easy to do so especially with the Fidlock buckle. There is no pinching of skin or hair with the buckle system.
Using the adjustable fit dial system in the back is easy, and getting the right snugness on the kids head isn’t an issue at all. We didn’t have any of the accessories like ear covers or bug cover so can’t comment on those. But, little things like the built in sun visor are nice touches to help keep some sun out of the children’s eyes.
As for safety, it gives us peace of mind that the helmet is rated to meet various safety certifications like the NTA 8776 e-bike certification. Having the MIPS system built into the helmet is also another great addition to the helmet. All of this adds up to a helmet we feel comfortable putting on our kids when going out for a ride.

Final Thoughts
As important as the adult feels about the helmet, it is just as important that the kid wearing will like it. When our little reviewer Mei saw the helmet she was very excited to have a nice new bright helmet to wear. Ours came with a few stickers and right away she wanted to customize it and put stickers on there. When she was informed that she could get some charms and put it on the back, she was even more excited. These little things made her look forward to wearing the helmet and going on rides, and there is not much better than that.
We’ve seen kids not be too into wearing a helmet, from fit and the process of putting one on and taking it off. With the Ozmo Sidekick there was no issue. In fact, after a few hours on the bike it is sometimes a bit of a challenge to get them to take it off as they want to continue wearing it and being on the bike.
For us, the Ozmo Sidekick is a win. From the safety, to color ways and customizable charm slider, this is a helmet we and the kids are happy to have around. It does come at a higher price point then a lot of helmets out there at $99, but that is not much for peace of mind for a helmet that a kid will be safe in and want to wear the helmet. Currently when this article is being published (3/26/2025) the Ozmo Kickstarter is still live and you can back it and get the helmet for $70 with shipments expected in June.
