Tenways Wayfarer Review

Tenways debuts their first ever throttle-enabled electric bike designed exclusive for America riders. With options for Class 1 to Class 3 modes, the Wayfarer is ready to tackle everyday riding with plenty of power and comfort to make you want to ride more.

The Wayfarer is more than capable for urban cruising, the front suspension and offroad ready tires will have you looking for more than one route to get around.

The Tenways Wayfarer boasts a powerful 750W rear hub drive unit with a 720Wh removable battery. This combo has you cruising around effortlessly at 20 mph and delivers a maximum range up to 85 miles per charge.

Available in two colors: Sapphire blue and Meteor Gray, the Wayfarer has a low step thru frame design with a low seat insertion. Setting things apart from the rest, Tenways opted for an extra wide (270mm x 275mm) ultra cushioned saddle on top of a suspension seatpost for a very comfortable seated experience.

The handlebars have a nice cruiser-like pullback so you’re not overreaching, and they’re fixed to an adjustable stem to further customize the fit of the Wayfarer for a wide range of riders.

Like most urban bikes today, the Wayfarer sits on 27.5″ wheels wrapped in Kenda Puncture Resistant tires that have a bit more traction to handle rougher terrain.

The drive unit has a peak power output of 750W at 65Nm of torque. Using their Pedal SMART technology, it will switch between both a Torque and Cadence sensor. This offers rides a dynamic pedalling experience to get the extra power when they really start pushing or to keep things comfortable for easier rides.

As mentioned this is their first Throttle Enabled ebike, which uses a thumb throttle found on the left side of your bars. Their approach to this system was to make one bike that meets Class 1, 2 and 3 standards. Allowing owners to choose the settings required for their local laws.

Tenways doesn’t stop there with offering the complete package. The Wayfarer comes with hydraulic disc brakes, fenders, a MIK ready rear rack and lights. The taillight has integrated turn signals as well to enhance the on-road riding experience. Addtionally, you’ll find a reliable Shimano 8-speed drivetrain.

Tenways set out to make a bike that’s just right for the US audience. Starting with comfort, they wanted to accommodate riders from leisurely rides to daily commutes and those looking for a way to increase their fitness opportunities.

From a capabality standpoint, the Wayfarer does just that. Lowering the seat a pinch and going out for a cruise, the comfortable ride and use of a throttle makes for a great time just crusing around town or heading to the park. Meanwhile when you’re looking to use it on a more dailiy basis and leave your car at home, the combination of how comfortable it is with the rear rack, fenders and lights, you’re ready to start using it to get to work or school everyday.

From a fitness perspective, sticking to pedalling and forgetting about the throttle, it’s easy to start turning the wheels and extending those rides after work to get plenty of miles that you may have not done previously.

How does this all come together? Is one bike good enough to do it all?

Well, not entirely “do it all”, but it sure can do a lot… And comfortably at that, with plenty of power to really have you enjoy your rides.

The everyday rider, right? We think it’s just right for folks looking to not break the bank, but to get a bike that packs a lot of value.

Ensuring riders get the most out of their experience, the Tenways app works without a hiccup to connect seamlessly and monitor your rides and even use the app to lock/unlock the bike to prevent unwanted riders. They also include an Apple Find my enable sensor thats found in the bell to integrate with your Apple device for easy tracking.

Again, we think it’s for riders looking to start riding more and to worry less about not being comfortable or having enough power to truly enjoy their time on two wheels.

Tenways has been making very nice looking bikes for some time and we’ve been eager to hop aboard. The Wayfarer was exactly what we would have expected and we think a lot of folks will really enjoy what it has to offer.

Standouts for us may look different than what you’re looking for or even what you may hear. When you’re looking at a bike that will most commonly be used riding around town, little things like Apple Find my and integrated taillights matter soo much to us. Of course, we like the peace of mind an AirTag can offer, but more so we want to know we’re getting some safety features that should be required.

Addtionally, we like the low step-thru design with a lot of flexibility to customize the fit. It makes it easy to setup for different riders especially if you’re sharing with others in your household.

We can’t overstate though, that giving riders the option to select which Class mode is enabled in the settings and coming with a throttle is really nice to see. Not everyone has the same local laws for ebikes and it can make traveling a challenge too if you come from one place and go to the next and rules change.

Overall, we think the Wayfarer is a really smooth bike that should really peak the interest of a lot riders out there. The value is very impressive and the bike is customizeable enough to be enjoyed a lot of different ways. Of course a 750W drive unit and getting up to 85 miles is very nice to see as well and from our time aboard the Wayfarer we’ve had nothing but a smooth, comfortable, powerful time.
