Class 3 electric bike with more utility, comfort and features.
Last year Momentum unveiled the newest generation of the Vida E+. This is a Class 3 electric bike focused on comfort, accessibility and easy riding. Rather than replacing it, Momentum took things further with the Vida E+ EX. Where the Vida E+ starts at $1600, the Vida E+ EX comes in at $1985, featuring everything we know about the original, with the addition of a dropper post, fenders, MIK-HD rear rack, and front and rear lights with brake feature. With the addition of a throttle, riders can enjoy the 0-Start and Cruise Mode.
Vida E+ EX. Comfort. Utility. Safety.
Built on the Vida E+ platform, the Vida E+ EX features the Syncdrive Move S 500W – 60Nm rear hub motor and Energy 700Wh – 48v battery. As a Class 3 electric bike, this combo has smooth abundant power that will carry you along with ease for up to 55 miles per charge. If you need more, a full charge can be had in just over 6 hours, and 80% in 4 hours and 40 minutes.
Spec’d with a Shimano 8-speed drive train and Tektro hydraulic disc brakes (4-piston front and 2-piston rear), the Vida E+ EX has just what you need for reliable daily riding.
New for the Vida E+ EX are a dropper post, fenders and MIK-HD rear rack as standard features. No need to hunt for accessories to outfit your everyday ride.
No daily commuter is complete without lights, which can be found here. A very bright front light and integrated rear lights with brake light feature.
Most riders will be interested in the Throttle Add-On for $65. Coming with two new features (which are also available as an update to the Vida E+) a 0-Start feature and a Cruise Mode.
For addtional safety and tuning riders can pair to the RideControl app. This gives access to the Remote Lock feature as well as Speed control.
Abyss Black and Carmel Cinnamon will be two flagship colors for the Vida E+ EX, Pale Olive will be a US only option and Canada will see the Mountain Air color.
Who is the Vida E+ EX for?
While the Vida E+ focused on comfort, accessibility and easy riding, the Vida E+ EX builds on that and focuses more on the every day rider.
The standard features found here further equip the Vida E+ to be meant for everyday riders. Looking to commute to work, hit the market on the way home, or just go for a ride around town.
However, this is only part of the package. Thinking further about the rider, the safety features and integrations are meant to keep you safe with this new found freedom. Lights are often seen as an add on accessory to be ready for evening riding, but they are equally important during your midday riding. Integrated rear lights that are always on and have a brake feature help to increase rider visibility to keep you safe.
The Vida E+ platform features a low step-through frame design which makes getting on and off the bike very easy for all riders. The addition of the dropper post takes it a step further for daily riding. Coming and going from a stop, riders can quickly drop their saddle height to get both feet comfortably planted below you for a more confident and balanced moment of control.
Momentum’s new throttle features two updates for the 0-Start and Cruise Mode. The 0-Start ability of the throttle has a smooth ramp up to get riders moving from a stop while they focus on their surroundings and feeling in control.
As much as the Vida E+ EX is for daily riders, this doesn’t necessarily make it exclusive to focused commuters looking to leave their vehicle at home. It equally carries all the DNA of the Vida E+ with the addition of the standard features and updates that will have all sort of riders thankful of on their leisure rides even if they are not daily.
Initial Impressions
The Vida E+ EX makes so much sense to us. After some time riding it, it has been refreshing to feel the Vida E+ DNA flowing through it. The Syncdrive Move S drive unit is one of the quieter drive units and is impressively smooth at power delivery. Cruising at 26+ mph down open roads or putting the Cruise Mode to use, Momentum is no stranger to smooth comfortable riding bikes and the Vida E+ EX doesn’t stray from that feeling.
All in, at $1985, the Momentum Vida E+ EX is a bike we will be directing people towards. As refreshing as it has been to ride a well composed Class 3 bike that is comfortable, smooth and ready for all sorts of rides, it’s equally as refreshing to see such value from one of the largest bike brands. While prices keep creaping up, we couldn’t have put our finger on the Vida E+ EX as a sub $2000 competitor.
Summer is looking brighter as our miles continue to stack up. We’re eager to continue to see our cataloged range and consistent power from the Vida E+ EX.
To celebrate the debut of the Vida E+ EX and a summer of sports excitement, Momentum is inviting its U.S. residents to enter the “VIDA COLOR CUP” contest for the chance to win a new Vida E+ EX.
