Aventon Aventure 3 Review: Fat Tire eBike With Smart Tech for $1,999

From city streets to gravel trails to snowy paths, the Aventure 3 continues Aventon’s trend of fat tire fun—with smarter features and smoother performance. And the best part? The price stays right at $1,999. Here is our review of the Aventon Aventure 3

What is it?

The Aventon Aventure 3 is the newest generation of their popular Aventure series all-terrain fat tire e-bike. It’s built for people who want to ride anywhere. Whether that’s pavement, dirt, sand, or snow without sacrificing comfort, performance, or tech. While the core identity of the Aventure stays the same, this new version adds some truly useful upgrades that push it well beyond previous models.

The drivetrain is built around a Shimano Altus 8-speed setup, which handled everything we threw at it without any complaints. Braking is covered by Tektro hydraulic disc brakes with 180mm rotors front and rear. They provide more than enough stopping power, even when loaded up or heading downhill.

You get a full set of fenders and an integrated rear rack, which can hold up to 59 pounds. That makes the Aventure 3 practical for grocery runs, commuting, or even light off roading. There are integrated rear lights built into the frame with brake activation and turn signals, plus a bright front headlight for visibility. You can also add a front rack, or hook up a trailer if you really want to haul gear. With a total weight capacity of 400 pounds, including rider and cargo, this bike is ready to carry just about anything.

The bike itself weighs around 76 pounds. It’s not light, but that’s lighter than previous generations, and still compatible with most e-bike-rated car racks that support up to 80 pounds. Removing the battery helps if you need to carry it upstairs or lift it onto a rack. Range is listed up to 65 miles, depending on terrain, rider weight, and how much you use the higher assist levels. We’ve had a ton of fun riding it in Turbo mode, so your mileage may vary.

What we liked

Right away, the motor on the Aventure 3 stands out. It’s a 750-watt rear hub motor with a peak output of 1,188 watts and produces 80nm of torque. That’s more than enough for hill climbs, quick acceleration, and staying fast in Turbo mode. Despite its power, it never feels too aggressive thanks to the updated torque sensor. In every mode, the pedal assist feels balanced. You can ride Eco mode on the flats and get a good workout or push things harder in Turbo without feeling like the bike’s taking over.

One of the most noticeable improvements is the new battery system. It’s a 733 watt-hour battery that’s fully integrated into the frame—and it’s keyless. Instead of using a traditional key, you access it through the bike’s display system. If you’re worried about theft, Aventon added a customizable passcode you’ll need to enter before powering the bike on. Plus, if you own other Aventon bikes like the Level, Abound, or Pace, you’ll appreciate that the batteries are interchangeable. That’s a big win for multi-bike households.

Perhaps the biggest leap forward is Aventon’s new ACU technology, or Aventon Control Unit. This system is built directly into the frame and includes a 4G chip and GPS, allowing you to track your bike if it ever goes missing. You can even set up a geofence through the Aventon app to keep your bike within a certain area. It also allows you to lock the rear wheel remotely, preventing anyone from rolling it away. Add in an audible alarm and it becomes clear that Aventon isn’t messing around when it comes to theft deterrents.

Some might say the tech features feel overkill, but we didn’t mind it. You’re not paying extra for it, the Aventure 3 is still $1,999, same as past models. And if you don’t want to use the app or GPS tools, you don’t have to. But once you try them, it’s hard not to appreciate that extra peace of mind.

Ride Feel

On the trail or the street, the Aventure 3 feels dialed in. Aventon swapped the front triangle of the frame for a new gravity cast aluminum front triangle. That not only makes the bike stiffer and better performing, but it also looks cleaner, no visible weld lines, just smooth contours. Combined with the front suspension fork and the suspension seatpost, the ride quality is impressive. Those four-inch fat tires soak up a lot, and the 80mm of front travel smooths out bumps in the road or on gravel trails. Even though it’s not a full suspension bike, the overall setup gives you plenty of comfort for all kinds of terrain.

The Aventure 3 ships as a Class 2 e-bike, but it’s fully adjustable through the Aventon app. You can unlock Class 3 mode for speeds up to 28 miles per hour, or convert it to a Class 1 by disabling the throttle. When riding in Class 3, the bike feels stable, even at top speed. It doesn’t surge out of control. That’s the torque sensor doing its job, only giving you what you put into the pedals. At 28 mph, there’s a little bounce from the fat tires and suspension, but nothing that feels unsafe.

Who is it for?

If you want to ride everything from paved bike paths to gravel roads to snowy tracks in winter, the Aventure 3 fits the bill. It’s not a mountain bike, and we wouldn’t take it on technical single track, but for fire roads, double track, sand, or just cruising around town, it’s ready. With the included fenders, rack, lights, and smart security features, it’s equally practical for everyday riders and weekend adventurers. And if you’re upgrading from a previous Aventure model, the new tech and smoother ride definitely make it worth considering.

Final Thoughts

Aventon didn’t just tweak the Aventure 3, they seriously leveled it up. The smart security features through the ACU, smoother power delivery with the torque sensor, and refined frame design give the Aventure 3 a real edge over the competition. All of that, while keeping the price locked at $1,999? That is a good deal for a lot of bike.

Whether you’re commuting, adventuring, or just enjoying the fat tire e-bike lifestyle, the Aventure 3 is ready for whatever you throw at it. It’s still just as fun as ever. Just smarter, sleeker, and more secure.
