The Lab

Limar’s Maloja helmet is constructed of a Triple Shell with in-mould carbon/EPS frame. Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) foam,  most widely used helmet liner in helmets today, is optimized through an in-mold Monoshell technology to offer premium protection through a wide range of impacts and is extremely lightweight. The Limar Maloja complies with U.S. CPSC safety standards.

The exterior provides 17 air vents and 8 longitudinal inner channels. This ventilation system design channel’s air across the head to regulate temperatures and maintain a cool riding experience. Limar uses Competition + fit which is integrated into the strap allowing you to find the ideal fit. This is a ratchet like system near the base of the head that adjusts to secure the helmet for a desired snug fit.

The interior has four antibacterial washable pads that allow you to keep your helmet clean and fresh through the year. It comes in four different color options: Matte Black, White & Grey, Matte Lime & Black, and Matte Deep Water (a rich blue color). The Maloja helmet covers sizes 54cm up to 61cm with their Medium or Large size offerings.

Conclusion

The Limar Maloja helmet has a very slim design that looks good going down the road and is extremely lightweight, our size large weighed in at 265g. The Competition + fit system allows it to adjust to your head very comfortably and not shimmy around while riding. All this while continuing to maintain that slim profile. I generally lean towards darker (black) helmets but have grown fond of brighter helmets as of late while riding around town and country roads more often, the white we have is extremely visible and visibility is a segment of safety that is often overlooked when valuing a helmet.

In addition to brighter colors being more visible on the road, they also don’t get as hot as a black helmet. That in combination with the 17 air vents and channels the Maloja was able to keep me cool on those hot summer days with the sun beaming down on those longer rides.

When I first pulled it out of the box and tried it on I was so surprised with how lightweight and slim it was. When trying it on the ratchet system made fitting it super quick and really comfortable. From the first ride to many rides later and even an overnight bike packing haul, this helmet provided comfort and breathability that really let you forget it was there.

Overall, the Limar Maloja helmet is a great lightweight, breathable, and comfortable helmet without breaking the bank. For $85 it provides the fit and comforts you want in a helmet and provides the safety you need for everyday road riding.
